India's two-wheeler segment hit its highest-ever monthly volume in May 2026 at 18,44,947 units — and the top five brands accounted for the bulk of that figure. The order at the top hasn't changed but the numbers behind each position tell you quite a bit about where demand is actually coming from and how each brand is structured. According to FADA retail data for May 2026, Hero MotoCorp, Honda, TVS, Bajaj and Suzuki were the five best-selling two-wheeler brands in India. Here's what each brand's number actually means.
1. Hero MotoCorp — 5,17,951 Units
Hero MotoCorp held the top spot by a distance that no other brand is realistically threatening right now. The commuter motorcycle range drove the bulk of volumes with the Splendor and HF Deluxe continuing
to pull strong numbers across urban and rural markets. Hero's retail network — over 6,000 dealerships spread across the country including deep into tier-3 and tier-4 towns — is the structural advantage here. Rural demand from a strong Kharif sowing season added to the push, particularly in smaller cities where Hero's penetration is far ahead of any competitor.
2. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India — 4,52,420 Units
Honda stayed second, and the Activa did most of the work. The Activa remained the biggest single contributor to Honda's volumes, while the Shine 125 and Unicorn held steady demand in the motorcycle segment. The gap between Hero and Honda at roughly 65,000 units has been consistent month after month. Honda's scooter volumes keep it in contention but closing that gap on the motorcycle side — where Hero's depth in rural markets is hard to match — remains the ongoing structural challenge.
3. TVS Motor Company — 3,56,352 Units
The Jupiter, Raider 125, and Apache family were the key drivers for TVS in May 2026. The iQube electric scooter continued to contribute healthy monthly numbers on the EV side. What makes TVS's third-place position different from the two above it is the spread — TVS is genuinely competing at volume across commuters, performance motorcycles, scooters and electric two-wheelers at the same time. That's a different business structure from Hero or Honda, and the monthly retail number doesn't fully capture that breadth.
4. Bajaj Auto — 1,97,738 Units
The Pulsar range continued to drive demand for Bajaj, with the Platina commuter and Chetak electric scooter also contributing to monthly volumes. The roughly 1.58 lakh unit gap between Bajaj and TVS reflects a deliberate strategy shift rather than weakness — Bajaj has been moving away from high-volume low-margin commuters toward a premium and export-led model for several years now. The domestic retail number also doesn't capture the KTM and Triumph motorcycles Bajaj manufactures locally, or the scale of its export business, so the full picture is larger than the domestic FADA figure suggests.
5. Suzuki Motorcycle India — 97,885 Units
The Access 125 was Suzuki's highest-selling model in May, with the Burgman Street and Gixxer range also contributing to dispatches. Suzuki's sub-1-lakh monthly number reflects a narrower portfolio compared to everyone above it. The brand hasn't expanded aggressively into EVs, hasn't launched a sub-125cc commuter in recent years, and operates with a smaller dealer network than its top-four peers. The Access 125 is essentially carrying Suzuki's position in this ranking — if that model softens for any sustained period, the brand's top-five spot becomes harder to hold.
