Toyota has introduced the new Hilux in India with prices starting at Rs 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated pickup arrives with a fresh exterior, a completely redesigned cabin as well as a three-variant lineup, while retaining its familiar diesel engine and four-wheel-drive setup. The changes focus on improving everyday usability instead of altering the mechanical package. Buyers can choose between the GX and VX variants with both receiving a noticeable jump in cabin technology and equipment. Price, Variants And What's Changed
The new Hilux is available in GX and VX trims. The former is available in both 4X2 and 4X4 configurations, while the latter comes in only 4x4 layout. Prices
start at Rs 31.99 lakh for the GX 4X2 AT while the top-spec VX AT costs Rs 36.69 lakh. The GX 4X4 AT retails for Rs 33.69 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures.
The front end has been completely reworked with a larger grille, slimmer LED headlamps and a new bumper. Fresh alloy wheels and redesigned LED taillamps give the pickup a cleaner look without changing its overall proportions.
The cabin sees the biggest improvement. A new dashboard layout houses a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a matching 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included while the higher VX variant also gets features such as ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera. Instead of adding flashy elements, Toyota has focused on making the cabin feel more up to date.
Engine And Off-Road Hardware
Under the bonnet, nothing changes. The new Toyota Hilux continues with the familiar 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that develops 201 hp and 500 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
The pickup also retains features such as an electronic differential lock and selectable drive modes for off-road use. Since the powertrain has been carried over, existing Hilux owners will find the driving experience largely familiar.
Safety And Should You Care?
Safety equipment has also been expanded, with 7 SRS airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD & Brake Assist and many other driver assistance features.
For most buyers, the biggest difference will be inside the cabin. The new screens, improved infotainment system and added convenience features make the Hilux feel more current than before while the proven diesel engine and four-wheel-drive hardware remain unchanged.
