Bajaj Auto has just cleared a major international milestone, as the company’s subsidiary, Bajaj Auto International Holdings B.V. (BAIH), has received official approval from the European Commission to proceed
with its plan to take control of Pierer Mobility AG which is the Austrian parent company of the motorcycle brand KTM.
This approval is a big deal for both Bajaj and India’s global presence in the motorcycle industry. It confirms that the European Commission will not conduct an in-depth investigation under its Foreign Subsidies Regulation, which means the transaction is cleared to move forward without delays. Bajaj Auto announced that the deal’s completion is expected in the coming weeks.

What’s the Deal About?
In May 2025, Bajaj Auto International Holdings signed an agreement with Pierer Industrie AG and Pierer Konzerngesellschaft mbH (PIKO). This deal gives Bajaj the right to buy the remaining shares of Pierer Bajaj AG which is the joint venture company that currently oversees their shared motorcycle operations.
Once the transaction is complete, BAIH will acquire Pierer Industrie AG’s 50.1% stake in Pierer Bajaj AG. This means Bajaj Auto will become the sole owner of Pierer Bajaj AG, which in turn holds a 74.9% stake in Pierer Mobility AG, the company that controls KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas motorcycle brands.
In simpler terms, Bajaj Auto is set to become the major controlling force behind KTM’s parent company, strengthening its influence over some of the world’s top performance motorcycle brands.
Regulatory Path
This move has been carefully reviewed by various regulators around the world. Approvals have already been granted by authorities in Austria, Poland, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Turkey, as well as under Austria’s Foreign Investment Control laws.
Even the Austrian Takeover Commission has given its approval, classifying the move as a corporate restructuring. This means Bajaj doesn’t need to make a public offer to other shareholders which is another green light for a smooth takeover.
Why It Matters
The company already manufactures and sells KTM and Husqvarna bikes in India and exports them worldwide. With this acquisition, Bajaj will gain even greater control over production, technology, and brand strategy.
Industry experts believe this could help Bajaj strengthen its position as a global motorcycle powerhouse, blending Indian manufacturing expertise with European engineering excellence. It could also open doors for new motorcycle models, advanced technology sharing and global R&D collaboration.
