NeoKavach, a young Indo-French venture dedicated to improving motorcycle safety, has rolled out what it calls India’s first wearable airbag system for riders. The new product, simply named the NeoKavach Air
Vest, is designed to give two-wheeler users a layer of impact protection that traditional jackets and armour often fail to provide, especially in high-speed or head-on collisions.
How Does This Wearable Airbag Work?
The company says the core idea behind the vest is simple: protect the most vulnerable parts of a rider’s upper body in the shortest possible time. Instead of relying on electronics, sensors or battery packs, NeoKavach has chosen a purely mechanical trigger. A tether connects the vest to the motorcycle, and the moment that connection is violently disrupted, for example, during a crash or if the rider is thrown off the bike, the system activates. Within roughly 100 milliseconds, the air chambers inside the vest inflate, forming a rigid cushion around the chest, spine, shoulders and neck.

This Airbag Is Reusable
This approach, NeoKavach claims, helps reduce the likelihood of serious injuries such as spinal hyperflexion, rib fractures or trauma to internal organs. The inflated volume ranges between 17 and 28 litres, depending on the model, giving enough coverage to stabilise the rider’s posture during impact. When the airbag has been deployed, the rider can replace the gas cartridge and continue using the vest, making it a reusable safety tool rather than a one-time investment.
Certified To Global Safety Standards
The company positions this system as a response to some sobering realities. Data repeatedly shows that motorcyclists face significantly higher danger on the road, with estimates suggesting more than 40 times the risk compared to car occupants. A majority of fatal two-wheeler crashes, according to injury research bodies, involve damage to the torso, spine or neck. NeoKavach says its vest has been built with those patterns in mind and is certified to global safety standards. A CE Level 2 back protector forms part of the structure, with the airbag layered above it for better force distribution.

How Much Does It Cost?
Alongside the vest, which costs Rs 32,400, NeoKavach is also introducing two backpack products featuring integrated airbag protection. The Tech Pack Pro, priced at Rs 40,800, combines safety with practical features such as a hydration pouch, laptop storage and a helmet holder. The more commuter-friendly Tech Pack Air is priced at Rs 36,000 and focuses on keeping weight down while offering the same quick-deploy safety technology.
