The Porsche Taycan EV has been updated abroad with a couple of features, and the new E-Shift system that simulates gear changes is perhaps the most notable one. The most recent addition to the all-electric sports sedan is to help it feel more engaging behind the wheel. It is interesting because electric vehicles do not require conventional gear shifts. Porsche believes that the new system can add an emotional layer to the driving experience of the EV by recreating the sensation of shifting gears, similar to what we see enthusiasts enjoying while cruising in petrol-powered sports cars. In addition to the virtual gearbox, the updated Taycan also has a larger standard battery pack and improved charging technology. These changes will be available
across the Taycan range, making the premium EV more driver-focused than before. Read on to know about them in detail.
2027 Porsche Taycan: What's New
Porsche's new E-Shift technology is the most significant addition to the updated Taycan. It makes the driving experience more engaging and offers both automatic and manual modes. In manual mode, drivers can shift through eight virtual gears using steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The feature works alongside an updated Porsche Electric Sport Sound, delivering authentic gear-shift sounds, simulated shift sensations, and a virtual rev counter. Drivers can also switch the system off to enjoy the seamless, uninterrupted acceleration that electric vehicles are known for.
Another prominent upgrade is the adoption of the 105kWh Performance Battery Plus as standard on more Taycan variants. The larger battery has not only increased energy capacity, but it can support DC fast charging at up to 320 kW on compatible 800-volt chargers. Porsche has also added a battery health display, allowing owners to monitor the condition of the battery over time.
Inside, the 2027 iteration gets the brand's new Digital Interaction infotainment system. The updated interface has a cleaner layout, AI-powered voice control, improved Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, configurable widgets and more intelligent navigation with an enhanced charging planner. A new wireless charging tray with magnetic phone alignment and faster charging is also available.
Most variants of the EV (excluding the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach Package) now receive a NACS DC fast-charging port on the passenger-side fender. However, the J1772 AC charging port is retained on the opposite side. To maximise charging compatibility, every eligible model will also be supplied with a CCS adapter. This will give drivers access to multiple charging standards.
Porsche has also announced an optional Manthey Kit for the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach Package. The upgrade includes aerodynamic enhancements, revised suspension tuning, larger front brakes and a dedicated wheel-and-tyre package.
