As 2026 begins, many carmakers in India have revised their prices and Volkswagen India is among them. The German brand has announced a price hike for its popular compact SUV, the Volkswagen Taigun. Volkswagen has increased the prices of almost all Taigun variants by Rs 4,000. The only exception is the entry-level Comfortline MT, which remains unchanged. In fact, the base variant now costs Rs 10.58 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes it around Rs 84,000 more affordable.

The Taigun is offered with two petrol engine options, both of which uses Volkswagen’s turbocharged TSI technology.
- The 1.0-litre TSI engine produces 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. It is available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic (torque converter).
- The more powerful 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine delivers 150 PS and 250 Nm, which makes it one of the strongest in the segment. It comes with a 6-speed manual or a sporty 7-speed DSG automatic.
- Mileage is rated at around 18–20 kmpl, which is decent for a petrol SUV with strong performance.
Size, Space
and Practicality
In terms of dimensions, the Taigun measures 4221 mm in length, with a 2651 mm wheelbase that helps provide good cabin space. It offers 188 mm ground clearance, a 385-litre boot and 50-litre fuel tank.
Features and Safety
From the inside, the Taigun feels modern and well-equipped, as it includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats and wireless phone charging.
Looking at the safety front, Volkswagen offers six airbags as standard, along with ABS, ESC and a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.
While the price increase of Rs 4,000 may seem small, it reflects the overall trend of rising car prices. Despite this, the Volkswagen Taigun continues to offer strong value through safety, performance, and solid engineering.
