Black is back in fashion on Indian roads and two SUVs wearing the darkest shades right now are the Hyundai Creta Knight Edition and the Tata Harrier Dark Edition. Both promise an all-black attitude, modern
technology and advanced safety. But beyond the colour theme, these are very different SUVs built for different kinds of buyers.
Price And Styling
The Creta Knight Edition starts at Rs10.79 lakh (ex-showroom) and is essentially Hyundai’s popular compact SUV in black. You get a glossy black grille, black roof rails, skid plates, dark alloys, and sporty red brake calipers. It looks sharp, youthful, and urban.
The Harrier Dark Edition, on the other hand starts at Rs 16.63 lakh, looks more intimidating. Finished in Oberon Black, it is larger, wider and taller. The piano-black grille, black badges, big 18/19-inch black alloys, and connected LED lighting give it a bold, premium SUV stance.
Cabin Feel And Features
Inside, both go all-black but with different vibes as Creta Knight gets black leatherette seats with brass stitching, metal pedals, twin 10.25-inch screens, Bose audio, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and even a built-in dashcam on higher trims. It feels techy and premium for its size.
Whereas, Harrier Dark’s cabin feels more like a luxury lounge, as you get Blackstone leather seats, ambient lighting, a larger 12.3-inch Harman screen, 10-speaker JBL audio, panoramic sunroof with mood lighting, powered tailgate, and memory seats.

Engine and performance
The Hyundai Creta Knight Edition comes with two practical engine choices, which are 1.5-litre petrol producing 115 PS and 1.5-litre diesel making 116 PS. Both options are tuned for smoothness and efficiency, which makes the Creta easy to drive in traffic, light on the controls and friendly for everyday city use.
The Tata Harrier Dark Edition, on the other hand, uses a much larger 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that delivers 170 hp and a strong 350 Nm of torque. This motor is built for effortless highway cruising, carrying full loads, and delivering strong pulling power without feeling strained.
Safety and ADAS
Both SUVs offer 6 airbags, 360-degree camera, ESC, ABS, and Level 2 ADAS with features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, emergency braking. However, the Harrier carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP/Global NCAP safety rating, adding extra peace of mind for safety-focused buyers.
So, which one is better?
Pick the Creta Knight Edition if you want lower price, petrol option, easier city driving and loads of tech in a compact size. Pick the Harrier Dark Edition if you want a bigger SUV feel, stronger diesel power, premium cabin space, and top safety credentials. Both wear black brilliantly. The real choice is between smart urban style and big, bold SUV presence.
