Kia appears to be preparing the Seltos Hybrid for India with recent test vehicles hinting at an eventual launch around 2027. While the company has not officially confirmed details yet, several industry reports suggest the hybrid SUV could deliver fuel-efficiency figures of around 25-26 kmpl. That instantly makes it important because the midsize SUV segment in India is changing quickly. Buyers still want SUVs but rising fuel prices and worsening city traffic are pushing many people toward hybrids instead of conventional petrol engines. The Seltos Hybrid is expected to target exactly those customers who are not fully ready for an EV yet but still want significantly lower running costs.
The Biggest Focus Could Be City Mileage
If there’s one thing Indian SUV buyers constantly complain
about today, it’s fuel efficiency in traffic. Most midsize petrol SUVs struggle to deliver strong mileage inside crowded cities like Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru where stop-go driving has become unavoidable. That’s where a strong-hybrid setup changes things.
According to reports, Kia is likely working on a hybrid system built around a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that is paired with an electric motor and battery pack. The company’s target likely is to achieve claimed fuel-efficiency figures between 25 kmpl and 26 kmpl and this would be a major jump over regular petrol SUVs in this segment.
More importantly, this is expected to be a proper strong hybrid instead of a mild-hybrid setup. In simple terms, the SUV should be able to run briefly on electric power alone during low-speed city driving. That becomes especially useful in traffic jams where hybrids can rely more on the battery at slower speeds instead of constantly burning fuel.
And honestly, that’s exactly why hybrid SUVs are suddenly becoming more popular in India. They are intended to reduce fuel bills in daily city usage without bringing the charging worries many buyers still associate with electric cars.
Expect Familiar Seltos Styling With Some Hybrid-Specific Changes
As part of this update, Kia may introduce small styling revisions for the hybrid version. These could include redesigned alloy wheels, updated bumpers as well as a few aerodynamic tweaks to improve mileage.
Inside, the overall cabin layout is expected to remain familiar because the current Seltos already comes heavily loaded with features. Buyers can likely expect the large dual-screen setup, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats along with ADAS package to continue. Hybrid-specific displays showing battery usage, regenerative braking and energy flow are also expected.

Pricing: The Most Important Factor
The current Seltos lineup already stretches close to Rs 20 lakh for higher variants. Reports suggest the hybrid version could sit somewhere between Rs 19 lakh and Rs 25 lakh depending on localisation and feature levels. That may sound expensive initially but Kia is clearly betting on one thing: Indian buyers are increasingly willing to pay more upfront if it significantly reduces fuel expenses over long-term ownership. And right now, hybrids seem to be becoming the middle ground many SUV buyers were waiting for.
