Toyota has introduced a hybrid version of its iconic Land Cruiser 300 for the first time and this has been unveiled for selected European markets which is scheduled to go on sale in parts of Eastern Europe from January 2026.
Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid - Legacy
The Toyota Land Cruiser is the brand’s longest-running nameplate, with its history continuing from 1954. Over nearly 70 years, the Land Cruiser has earned a reputation as one of the most capable SUVs in the world, and today, Toyota sells it in three broad forms which are - the Station Wagon line, represented by the Land Cruiser 300 which focuses on comfort and performance, the Heavy Duty line, led by the 70 Series, is built for extreme conditions and the Light Duty range, such as the newer 250 Series, is aimed more at modern family and European markets. The newly launched hybrid setup is offered on the Station Wagon-based Land Cruiser 300.Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid - Hybrid Powertrain
For the first time ever, the Land Cruiser 300 combines petrol power with electric assistance, as under the hood is a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine which is paired with an electric motor in a parallel hybrid system. Together, they produce 450 bhp and 790 Nm of torque, which makes this the most powerful Land Cruiser ever built. The electric motor is placed between the engine and the 10-speed automatic gearbox. A nickel-metal hydride battery stores energy and allows short electric-only driving at low speeds (below 30 kmph), which is useful in city traffic or slow off-road conditions. The system also recovers energy while braking, improving overall efficiency.
Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid - On-Road Performance with Off-Road DNA
Toyota says the hybrid setup improves throttle response compared to the diesel version, which makes acceleration smoother and quicker. An electric power steering system has also been added, which improves ease of driving in both urban and off-road situations. Also, Toyota has ensured that electrification does not compromise capability. The hybrid Land Cruiser 300 has been tested in extreme environments. Its battery housing is fully waterproofed, which
maintains a 700 mm water-wading depth. Key off-road features like low-range gearing, terrain modes and electronic driver aids remain unchanged.
