Which Defenders Now Meet the “Under Rs 1 Crore” Tag
Realistically, only one variant currently qualifies under the Rs 1 crore mark: the 110 X-Dynamic HSE 2.0 petrol. All other variants — whether diesel, V8 petrol, or performance versions — continue to be priced above the threshold. The Defender range now spans Rs 98 lakh to Rs 2.60 crore (ex-showroom), reflecting the broad pricing spread within the lineup.

Context: Why The Price Drop Happened
The price reduction is tied to India’s new GST structure (GST 2.0) that restructured tax rates and removed compensation cesses, even for luxury cars. Land Rover passed the benefit to select Defender variants. Moreover, plans are underway to locally assemble the Defender in India (via CKD), which could further compress pricing and ease import duty burdens.
