In a series of recent announcements, Tata Motors has confirmed three EV launches that the Tata.ev brand plans to carry out in 2026. Revealing in broad strokes, Tata.ev has also confirmed that we will see five EV models by 2030. The first to arrive from the new crop of electric vehicles will be the Sierra EV, which is expected to be released shortly before Tata Motors unveils a facelift of the Punch EV compact electric SUV. Here are five big updates that we expect the new Punch EV to get in its upcoming version.
1. New Gen-2 Motor For Punch EV Facelift -
Perhaps the biggest upgrade for the new Punch EV would be the addition of the new Gen-2 electric motor that will offer higher power and efficiency. The current Punch EV is among the first Tata
EVs to be built on the Gen-2 Platform but the new Gen-2 electric motor had debuted with the new Nexon EV.
2. Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) -
When compared, the Punch EV is currently the most well-appointed electric SUV in its segment. However, Tata.ev has several new features in its arsenal that we could see in the facelift. One of them is the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) that we have seen in the Curvv EV and Harrier EV. The system emits an audible noise while driving at low speeds to alert pedestrians of the EV approaching.
3. Bigger Touchscreen:
While the Punch EV currently features a 10.24-inch infotainment touchscreen, it could get upgraded to the 12.2-inch high-resolution screen that we have seen in the bigger electric SUVs from the brand.
4. Bigger Battery Pack:
If Tata.ev plans to throw all its latest innovations at the Punch EV facelift, then we could also expect to see a bump in the Punch EV's smaller battery pack capacity. While Tata Motors has not confirmed any details, we expect the base 25 kWh battery pack to get bigger. This could give the base Punch EV a battery capacity of 30 kWh, which would also increase its overall range.
5. ADAS Safety Features:
Tata.ev could also make a segment-first upgrade to the Punch EV facelift by giving it ADAS safety capabilities. Considering that the existing Punch EV already has features such as a 360-degree parking camera, all four disc brakes, an electronic parking brake and a blind spot view monitor, having a set of autonomous safety functions might have made it to the facelift manifesto.
