After a relatively mixed start to the calendar year for the Indian two-wheeler industry, Bajaj Auto has reported a sharp rise in volumes for May 2026. The company sold about 4.62 lakh units last month. This means a 20% increase when compared to approximately 3.85 lakh sold in May last year. It has been observed that while the domestic sales did improve, the bigger story or the headline figures come from the overseas market because there, the demand has shown much faster growth and that too at a consistent pace. The latest figures indicate that export business is playing a very important role in Bajaj Auto's overall performance. Here in India, we can say that products like Pulsar 125 and Pulsar N160 remain among the company's most visible products.
Overseas Markets Account For Much Of The Growth
The gap between domestic and export growth was noticeable in May. Bajaj Auto sold roughly 2.48 lakh vehicles in India during the month, an increase of 10% over the same period last year. Exports, however, climbed 34% to over 2.13 lakh units. In simple terms, nearly half of the company's total volumes now come from markets outside India. For manufacturers with a sizeable international footprint, exports can help balance fluctuations in local demand. May's numbers show exactly that.
Two-Wheelers Continue To Form The Core Business
Motorcycles have always remained Bajaj Auto's largest contributor by a wide margin and this is true for the last month too. The company sold more than 3.93 lakh two-wheelers during May 2026 as compared to over 3.32 lakh units a year earlier. Domestic two-wheeler sales crossed 2.09 lakh units while exports approached 1.84 lakh units.
Although Bajaj Auto has not provided model-wise monthly sales in its release, the company's portfolio spans multiple segments, from entry-level commuters to performance-focused motorcycles. That wide spread helps it tap demand from different types of buyers instead of relying on a single product line.
FY2026 Has Started On A Positive Note
The momentum of sales was not limited to May alone. Across April and May combined, Bajaj Auto sold over 9.75 lakh vehicles globally. This is an increase from roughly 7.50 lakh units sold during the corresponding period last year. Export volumes rose 57% and outpaced the 11% increase seen in domestic sales.
The takeaway from the latest data is straightforward. Bajaj Auto's growth story at the moment is being shaped as much by international demand as by the Indian market. If that trend continues through the rest of FY2026, exports could remain one of the company's biggest volume drivers.
