Marking a significant milestone in its India chapter, Mercedes-Benz has now started the production of the ultra-luxury Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV at the Pune manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The move
signifies an important shift as it makes India the first market to locally produce the Maybach GLS outside of the United States. That is not all, as the luxury carmaker has also announced 12 new cars for the domestic market by the end of 2026. Here's everything you need to know.
The local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 'Celebration Edition', worth Rs 4.10 crore, signifies the country's strategic importance as one of the top 5 consumers of Mercedes-Maybach cars. For perspective, the flagship brand's lineup starts from the Maybach S-Class that has a base price of Rs 2.90 crore in India. Overall, top-end vehicles such as the S-Class, Maybach GLS and AMG performance cars made up for 25 percent of total Mercedes-Benz sales in the country in 2025.
Coming to the 12 new cars announced for 2026, these will include the Maybach GLS and also the new EQS electric SUV 'Celebration Edition', which costs Rs 1.34 crore and Rs 1.48 crore ex-showroom for the 5-seater and 7-seater versions, respectively. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that both all-new cars and facelifts are included in the products planned for India in 2026. The imminent launch of the new CLA Electric has been confirmed as one of the new cars to arrive this year.

2025 has been the best-ever year in terms of revenue for Mercedes-Benz after a record sale of 19,007 cars within the calendar year. This includes a strong uptake in EV models by the brand, which made up for 20 percent of all top-end cars sold in the market. EV winners include models such as the EQS Maybach, G580 and EQS SUV that range between Rs 1.25 crore to Rs 3.10 crore in ex-showroom value. Core models such as the E-Class, GLC SUV and others still made up for the majority of sales for the brand with a 62 percent share in overall numbers.
