The Tata Sierra EV has taken another step closer to launch, and the latest teaser reveals something buyers have been waiting to know. Tata Motors has confirmed that the electric SUV will get an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup. That's important because AWD remains relatively rare in the mainstream EV space and could give the Sierra EV an advantage for buyers who want better traction and more confidence beyond city roads. The Sierra EV Won't Be Limited To City Roads

of AWD, indicating that the Sierra EV will use a dual-motor setup. In simple terms, one motor powers the front axle while another drives the rear wheels. That allows the SUV to send power to all four wheels when needed.

The video also shows the Sierra EV being driven on loose surfaces, hinting that Tata wants to highlight its ability away from perfectly paved roads. For most buyers, that doesn't necessarily mean serious off-roading. Instead, AWD can be useful during heavy rain, on slippery roads or when driving through rough patches where additional grip makes a difference.

As more electric SUVs enter the market, capability is becoming another area where manufacturers are trying to stand out and Tata appears keen to join that conversation.

The Classic Sierra Shape Is Still Easy To Spot

Even though the Sierra has been redesigned for the electric era, the connection to the original model remains obvious. The signature glasshouse, upright profile and distinctive proportions have all carried over in some form. At the same time, the SUV looks modern enough to fit into Tata Motors' current EV line-up.

Previous showcases have already revealed details such as connected LED lighting elements, flush-fitting door handles as well as a cleaner exterior design. The latest teaser focuses less on styling and more on what sits underneath.

That's a sign Tata may now be shifting attention towards the vehicle's hardware and performance credentials as the launch draws closer.

Most EV conversations in India revolve around range, charging times and battery size. The Sierra EV teaser shifts the focus slightly. By confirming AWD, Tata is signalling that this SUV is being developed with more than just urban commuting in mind.
