Yamaha has pulled the wraps off its new Proto Electric Superbike at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. While Yamaha hasn’t revealed key performance figures such as battery capacity, power output, or range,
the company says the bike’s performance will sit between the R6 and the R1, which means it’s expected to be seriously quick.

Design-wise, the Proto Electric Superbike carries the unmistakable DNA of Yamaha’s R-series. It looks sharp, aggressive, and track-ready, with clean aerodynamic lines and a low-slung stance. The prototype skips mirrors and regular lighting equipment, hinting at its pure racing intent. There’s a double-sided swingarm, a compact tail section that likely conceals the battery pack, and a lightweight chassis that focuses on the joy of riding; something Yamaha describes as “fun that can only be experienced with a large-capacity battery EV.”
The company’s engineers have prioritised lightness and compactness to create an electric supersport that feels natural and easy to handle. Yamaha has also paid close attention to rider interaction. The Proto Electric Superbike introduces a new human-machine interface (HMI) that brings simple fingertip controls and a digital display capable of visual and audio feedback. This setup keeps the rider focused on the track while maintaining an intuitive connection with the machine.

Under the skin, the prototype gets premium hardware. Upside-down front forks, a low-mounted rear monoshock, and powerful disc brakes on both ends. With this concept, Yamaha is clearly showing where its future is headed. The Proto Electric Superbike isn’t just a showcase of what Yamaha can build; it’s a statement that electric motorcycles can still deliver the same adrenaline and thrill as their petrol-powered predecessors.
