Suzuki has pulled the wraps off the new Fronx FFV concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, and it’s a small but significant step toward the brand’s cleaner mobility vision. The “FFV” here stands for “Flexible
Fuel Vehicle,” meaning it’s designed to run on ethanol-blended petrol. While the Fronx already supports E20 fuel in India, petrol mixed with up to 20% ethanol, this concept takes things further, hinting at a version capable of running on higher ethanol blends for near-zero emissions.

The India-spec Fronx uses the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that already meets E20 compliance. In its current form, it can handle 20% ethanol blends without issue. But the FFV version showcased in Japan is Suzuki’s way of proving it can go beyond that. The company wants to maximise ethanol usage and minimise tailpipe emissions, offering another alternative to pure-electric mobility. In short, Suzuki isn’t putting all its eggs in the EV basket; it’s looking at multiple paths to carbon neutrality.
What makes this more interesting is Suzuki’s wider lineup at the show. Alongside the Fronx FFV, the company is also displaying its first pure-electric SUV, the e Vitara, as well as a CBG (Compressed Biomethane Gas) concept car based on its Victoris SUV. Even quirky innovations like robot dogs and mini electric kei cars are sharing floor space.
Back home in India, the Fronx has made quite a mark in the compact crossover space. It brought back the much-loved 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, which enthusiasts will remember from the Baleno RS days. The Boosterjet makes 100 hp and 147 Nm of torque and can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. This setup gives the Fronx a lively performance edge that sets it apart from other Maruti Suzuki models.

For those who prefer something simpler, there’s also the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor, good for 90 hp. This engine comes with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox, making it the more fuel-efficient choice in the lineup.
