Hyundai Motor India has quietly taken down the Tucson SUV from its official website, hinting that the premium model may have reached the end of its road in the country. There’s been no formal announcement
yet.
Why Has Hyundai Pulled The Plug?
The Tucson, positioned as Hyundai’s flagship SUV below the Ioniq 5, never quite managed to find its footing in India. Despite its strong global reputation, the SUV struggled to justify its premium pricing in a market that leans heavily toward value-driven options. With ex-showroom prices starting well above Rs 30 lakh, the Tucson competed against established players like the Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross, and even entry-level luxury SUVs.

Tucson’s limited visibility, modest monthly sales, and lack of a strong diesel-auto AWD combination in the volume segments didn’t help its case either. Hyundai’s decision appears to be part of a larger rationalisation plan, trimming slow-moving models to prioritise high-demand SUVs like the Creta, Venue, and Alcazar.

Dealers have reportedly been informed about the SUV’s phase-out, and existing stock is likely to be cleared over the next few weeks. Customers interested in premium Hyundai SUVs are being redirected toward the Alcazar or advised to wait for upcoming models. Hyundai is also known to be preparing the next-generation Tucson globally, which may eventually return to India in an all-new avatar, possibly with hybrid or electric powertrains.
