Nissan's upcoming Tekton has been spotted testing with its rear end largely uncovered. This development comes just two weeks before the SUV's official debut on July 9. The timing here is obviously significant for Indian buyers eyeing the Creta, Seltos or Grand Vitara since Nissan is positioning this as its most important India launch in years and the rear design gives away more about its on-road presence than any teaser has so far. Here's all you need to know about the upcoming Nissan offering.
What Does the Tekton's Rear Design Reveal?
The latest spy shots show a prominent roof-mounted spoiler, a steeply raked windshield as well as a chunky rear bumper that matches the boxy, upright stance Nissan has been teasing for months. The taillamps use a C-shaped, connected LED signature. This
is a deliberate nod to the larger Nissan Patrol which Nissan has been showing alongside the Tekton in its own marketing as a kind of "baby Patrol."
Combined with hex-styled wheel arch cladding, large multi-spoke alloys and C-pillar-mounted rear door handles already confirmed from earlier sightings, this rounds out a genuinely distinct visual identity instead of a re-skinned Renault Duster with a new badge, even though the underlying platform is shared.
Nissan Tekton: Expected Engine and Price Range
The Nissan Tekton rides on the same CMF-B platform as the new-generation Renault Duster and is expected to share its engine lineup too. Entry variants are likely to get a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol producing around 98.6 hp and 160 Nm while higher trims step up to a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol making roughly 161 hp and 280 Nm. Both of these units are expected to come with manual and automatic gearbox choices. A strong-hybrid option using a 1.8-litre petrol engine paired with a small battery pack is also planned for the Duster and Tekton, though Nissan hasn't confirmed if or when that reaches the Tekton specifically.
On pricing, expect the Tekton to land close to the Duster's existing Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.69 lakh range, ex-showroom. This will put it in direct contention with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate and Tata Sierra.
