Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new GLC 53 for global markets. The performance-focused SUV now moves to a bigger, more powerful six-cylinder petrol engine, leaving behind the earlier four-cylinder setup. It will be offered in both standard SUV and Coupe body styles.

The biggest headline here is the engine, as the new GLC 53 gets a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol motor. This replaces the earlier four-cylinder petrol unit seen in previous AMG GLC versions. The engine produces 437 bhp and 600 Nm of torque. For short bursts, an overboost function can increase torque to 640 Nm. That is serious muscle for a mid-size SUV.
There is also a 48V mild-hybrid system and it adds 22.6 bhp and 205 Nm temporarily, which helps with smoother acceleration and better efficiency. Power is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes-AMG claims the SUV can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h, but it can go up to 270 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.Performance
Performance is not only about power figures as Mercedes-AMG has added several chassis upgrades. For
the first time on an AMG SUV, buyers can opt for an electronically controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential with a drift function. This feature, part of the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, allows the SUV to feel more agile and playful in corners.
Rear-axle steering, adaptive suspension and multiple drive modes like Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual help the driver adjust the SUV’s character depending on road conditions.Style
On the outside, the GLC 53 gets the popular AMG grille with vertical slats, sharp LED headlamps and sporty bumpers. It rides on 21-inch forged alloy wheels as standard.

Premium Cabin and Safety
From the inside, the GLC 53 features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch central touchscreen. There is a flat-bottom steering wheel, carbon-fibre trim and optional gold highlights. A 15-speaker Burmester sound system, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and powered seats are all part of the package. Safety features include a 360-degree camera, driver-assistance systems, tyre-pressure monitoring and advanced braking systems.
Will India Get It?
The big question for Indian buyers is whether this powerful AMG SUV will arrive here soon. Given that Mercedes-Benz India already sells other AMG models, the chances are strong. However, pricing will play a key role, as performance SUVs in this category sit well above Rs 80 lakh mark. If launched in India, the AMG GLC 53 will appeal to buyers who want the practicality of an SUV but the thrill of a sports car.
