1. KTM and Husqvarna - Powered By Bajaj Auto:
The European two-wheeler brands, KTM and Husqvarna, are known for offering performance-oriented sports motorcycles around the world. However, KTM had been under a near-equal ownership stake of Bajaj Auto up until May 2025, when the manufacturer acquired a controlling stake in Pierer Bajaj AG (PBAG), the Austrian company which had been in control of KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS brands. Bajaj Auto currently manufactures the majority of KTM and Husqvarna models for export from India.
2. Norton Motorcycle Company - Powered By TVS Motor Company:
When British motorcycle company Norton was crushed under debt in 2020, then Indian two-wheeler giant TVS Motor Company came to its rescue and acquired it for GBP 16 million or Rs 153 crore at the time. Norton and TVS have since been working on several models and we could soon see a new mass market motorcycle make its debut globally.
3. Jaguar Land Rover - Powered By Tata Motors
Perhaps the most well-known Indian acquisition in the automotive world was when Tata Motors acquired British automotive legend, Jaguar Land Rover, in 2008. The house of luxury car brands has since found safe haven under the Tata umbrella and exists as a fully integrated brand in 2025.
4. Royal Enfield - Powered By Eicher Motors
Once a British icon on its last legs, Eicher Motors resurrected the Royal Enfield brand into the globally-renowned brand that it is today. Royal Enfield currently acts as a major stakeholder in the global midsize motorcycle market and each motorcycle is manufactured in Chennai before being exported to Europe and North America. The acquisition was made in 1994 and continues strongly to this day.
5. Jawa, Yezdi, BSA - Powered By Mahindra-backed Classic Legends:
Classic Legends was founded in 2015 to revive the dead but iconic motorcycle brands such as Jawa, Yezdi and BSA. However, Mahindra and Mahindra acquired a controlling stake in the company in 2016 at 60 percent. This allowed Mahindra to tap into the growing retro-bike market in the country and Classic Legends has since revived all three brands in India, UK and other European markets.
While the legacy of these iconic brands may belong to their country of origin, the fact that Indian automotive powerhouses are the muscle behind them now is a testament to the country's manufacturing prowess.
