Toyota will launch the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux in India tomorrow, July 28 with expected pricing between Rs 32 lakh and Rs 40 lakh. This will be a clear jump from the outgoing model's Rs 28.52 lakh to Rs 36 lakh ex-showroom range. The new truck is based on the same IMV platform and is expected to keep its 2.8-litre diesel engine, though a 48V mild-hybrid system borrowed from the Fortuner could improve efficiency slightly. This matters because the Hilux continues to compete against just one rival in India, the Isuzu V-Cross, priced considerably lower at Rs 25.50 lakh to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Toyota India is
likely to carry over the familiar 2.8-litre diesel engine, producing 204 hp and 420 Nm with the 6-speed manual or 240 hp and 500 Nm paired with the 6-speed torque-converter automatic alongside a 4x4 system with a low-range transfer case as standard. The only genuine mechanical addition expected is Toyota's 48V 'neoDrive' mild-hybrid system, which is already used on the Fortuner. This would give a modest fuel efficiency improvement instead of a power boost. Internationally, Toyota also sells a fully electric Hilux with a 59.2kWh battery and 240 km WLTP range but that variant is unlikely to reach India given the segment's diesel-focused buyer base.

The international ninth-generation Hilux gets a considerably more aggressive design with slimmer LED headlights, a squared-off grille with honeycomb-mesh detailing as well as a bumper featuring large air intakes and a silver skid plate. The side profile stays cleaner with 18-inch black alloy wheels and squared wheel-arch cladding, while the rear gets wraparound C-shaped LED taillights.
Inside, expect an entirely revamped, all-black cabin with a 3-spoke steering wheel retaining physical buttons alongside twin 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and touchscreen. This means a notable step up from the current model's interior.
