Hyundai has officially confirmed that the production version of its Concept Three electric vehicle will be called the Hyundai Ioniq 3 and the announcement was made at the Brussels Motor Show 2026. This means Hyundai is preparing a smaller, more city-friendly electric vehicle to sit below models like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.
Hyundai Ioniq 3 - From Concept to Reality
The story of the Ioniq 3 began in 2025, when Hyundai showcased the Concept Three at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich and that concept gave a clear preview of Hyundai’s vision for a compact electric car designed mainly for urban and suburban use. Now, Hyundai has confirmed that this concept will enter production under the Ioniq 3 nameplate, with production expected to begin in Europe
in 2026.
By using the Ioniq name, Hyundai is pointing that this model will be part of its dedicated electric family, which already includes the Ioniq 5 SUV and Ioniq 6 sedan.
Hyundai Ioniq 3 - Positioning
The Hyundai Ioniq 3 is expected to be positioned in the compact electric SUV segment, which is growing rapidly in Europe as many buyers there are looking for smaller EVs that are easy to drive, park and charge, especially in cities. Depending on its final design, the Ioniq 3 could also reduce the gap between a compact SUV and an electric hatchback.

Hyundai Ioniq 3 - What to Expect Technically
Hyundai has not revealed full technical details yet, but the Ioniq 3 is expected to be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP electric platform, which already underpins several Hyundai and Kia EVs. Expectations include a fully electric drivetrain, a driving range suitable for daily city use and advanced driver assistance systems.
Hyundai Ioniq 3 - Size and Design
The Concept Three will measure 4,287 mm in length, 1,940 mm in width and 1,428 mm in height, with a 2,722 mm wheelbase. Design-wise, the concept followed Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” philosophy, featuring a sleek hatchback profile, smooth surfaces and pixel-style lighting at both the front and rear. Some elements such as gullwing-style rear doors and oversized wheels are unlikely to make it to production.
Hyundai Ioniq 3 - Interior
Inside, the Concept Three showcased a clean and minimalist cabin as it featured two compact digital displays placed above an octagonal steering wheel, with ambient lighting integrated into the dashboard and doors. A central console separated the front seats which gives the cabin a modern and airy feel.
