Maruti Suzuki has achieved a notable milestone with its first electric SUV, the e Vitara as this India-made model has secured a 4-star safety rating in ANCAP crash tests, marking a strong entry into global safety standards.
The e Vitara is an important product for Maruti Suzuki. It is the company’s first fully electric SUV, and it is made in India for both domestic and global markets. The 4-star rating from ANCAP shows that the vehicle meets good safety standards internationally. However, it falls just short of the highest 5-star rating.
According to ANCAP, the e Vitara scored 77% in Adult Occupant Protection, 87% in Child Occupant Protection, 79% in Vulnerable Road User Protection and 71% in Safety Assist systems. Overall, these scores place
the e Vitara in a strong position, even if it is not the best in class. The e Vitara comes with a wide range of safety features. These include multiple airbags, including front, side, curtain, and driver knee airbag, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), lane support systems and speed assist with sign recognition. These features are designed to prevent accidents and protect passengers if a crash happens.
The e Vitara is manufactured in India and exported to multiple countries. This highlights India’s growing role as a global production hub for electric vehicles. Interestingly, while it scored 4 stars in ANCAP, the same model has received a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP (India). This difference is due to variations in testing standards across regions.
The e Vitara offers two battery options - 49 kWh battery with around 440 km range and 61 kWh battery with up to 543 km range. Power output ranges from 144 hp to 174 hp, with both versions producing 189 Nm of torque.

The e Vitara starts at around Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) under a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. It is available in three variants Delta, Zeta and Alpha, giving buyers different features and battery options.
For customers, this is a positive sign. It shows that Maruti Suzuki is entering the EV space with a product that meets global safety standards. It also gives buyers more confidence in choosing an electric vehicle from a trusted brand.
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara may not have achieved a perfect score in ANCAP tests, but a 4-star rating is still a strong result. For a first electric SUV from Maruti Suzuki, it shows the brand is moving in the right direction.
