The BMW F 450 GS is going to launch in India today, bringing a new twin-cylinder option to the mid-capacity ADV segment and this product is an important one for BMW Motorrad because it replaces the older single-cylinder G 310 GS with a more powerful and versatile setup. The motorcycle is locally manufactured in partnership with TVS, which plays a key role in pricing and availability. Bookings are already underway ahead of launch, and the model will enter a space where buyers are looking for a balance between touring ability, everyday usability and manageable performance.
Engine And Performance
The BMW F 450 GS is powered by a 420cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine producing around 48 hp and 43 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and also gets a bidirectional
quickshifter for clutchless gear changes.
The bike has a kerb weight of around 178 kg which keeps it relatively manageable for its segment. Seat height stands at approximately 845 mm with multiple seat options available to suit different riders.
This setup is designed to offer better highway performance and refinement compared to smaller single-cylinder ADVs, while still being usable for daily riding and off-road conditions.
Features, Hardware And Design
The F 450 GS follows BMW’s GS design language with a beak-style front, upright stance and LED lighting. It rides on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination, which is suited for mixed terrain use.
On the feature side, the bike gets a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, multiple riding modes as well as traction control. It also includes switchable ABS and electronic rider aids designed to improve control across different surfaces.
Higher variants may include features like Easy Ride Clutch and additional off-road modes especially in the GS Trophy trim, which is more focused on off-road use. The chassis uses a lightweight frame with long-travel suspension including USD front forks and a rear monoshock to balance on-road comfort and off-road capability.

Price Positioning And Buyer Impact
The BMW F 450 GS is expected to be priced from around Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom) depending on variant and final specifications.
It will compete with motorcycles like the KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and Honda NX500. The key difference is its twin-cylinder engine which typically offers smoother performance at higher speeds.
For buyers, this launch changes the entry point into BMW’s GS lineup. Instead of starting with a single-cylinder option, there is now a more refined twin-cylinder alternative at a relatively accessible price.
What stands out is the shift in segment expectations. Mid-capacity adventure bikes are moving toward higher performance and better electronics and the F 450 GS reflects that trend with a combination of power, features and local manufacturing.
