Nissan plans to double its global NISMO lineup from five models to ten. Along with more models, Nissan also wants to expand NISMO availability in more international markets. Annual shipments are expected to rise from around 100,000 units to 150,000 units by 2028. In fact, overseas sales are planned to grow from 40% to 60%, which shows Nissan’s global ambitions for NISMO.
To add more value for customers, Nissan is also open to collaborating with external partners, which could lead to exciting special editions or performance upgrades in the future. Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. along with Nissan Motorsports & Customization Co., Ltd. (NMC), has announced new initiatives to strengthen its NISMO brand. Nissan wants to make more performance-oriented cars
and bring racing-inspired thrill to everyday roads.

NISMO stands for Nissan Motorsports and it represents the brand’s high-performance division, as these are not regular cars; NISMO models are sportier, sharper to drive and inspired by racing technology. Under Nissan’s Re:Nissan product strategy, such models are called “heartbeat models.”
Nissan follows a clear philosophy of “Road to track, track to road,” which means technology tested in racing is later used in road cars. Nissan actively competes in top-level racing series like Super GT and Formula E.
Nissan also plans to continue racing in series such as Super Taikyu and also explore new racing formats. From fiscal year 2026, Nissan will even introduce prototype race vehicles to speed up development in both hardware and software, which will directly benefit future NISMO road cars.
Nissan isn’t just looking ahead, but it is also honouring its past, as the global car restoration market is already worth about 500 billion yen and is expected to grow to 1.2 trillion yen by 2032. NMC plans to expand its restoration and parts business, starting with models like the Skyline GT‑R R32, R33, and R34.
Yutaka Sanada, President and CEO of NMC, said that NISMO will continue to raise excitement and innovation in Nissan vehicles. He added that the brand’s passion for performance will also influence other Nissan products in the future.
