After releasing multiple teasers for a new three-row SUV, Toyota has now officially unveiled the 2027 Highlander electric SUV with all-wheel drive. The Highlander has been a long-running model for Toyota, preferred by family car buyers in the United States and other global markets. The Highlander is known for being a comfortable SUV that is suitable for everyday driving and occasional outdoor adventures. Here's all you need to know about the new Toyota electric SUV.
In terms of specifications, Toyota has confirmed that the Highlander Battery-Electric-Vehicle (BEV) will be offered in two different battery pack options. A 76.96 kWh battery version suitable for urban driving and daily commutes and a 95.82 kWh battery version for longer journeys.
While the brand has highlighted the all-wheel drive version for the Highlander BEV, Toyota is also bringing a front-wheel drive version to appeal to a wider set of SUV buyers. The larger battery pack gives the Highlander BEV a claimed range of up to 320 miles or 514 km on a full charge. The smaller battery pack delivers a claimed range of 287 miles (461 km) in comparison.
While the Highlander BEV is an exciting launch for family car buyers and Toyota fans, the new SUV has been announced for the North American market in the current scenario. That means that other global markets, including India, may not see it anytime soon. The Highlander line of SUVs has been present in the American market since 2001 and has cumulatively sold over 3.6 million units since then. The new launch comes months after Toyota globally revealed the BEV version of its iconic Hilux pickup truck.

On the India front, Toyota has already debuted its first electric SUV for the domestic market and is days away from announcing the prices and starting deliveries. The Urban Cruiser Ebella also gets two battery pack options and an ARAI-certified range of 543 km with the larger 61 kWh battery. Pre-bookings for the Ebella are currently open in India at a token amount of Rs 21,000 and it will compete against a growing crop of capable and attractive mid-sized SUVs.
