BMW M440i Convertible has been launched in India at Rs 1.09 crore (ex-showroom) as a completely built unit, bringing back a six-cylinder petrol convertible to a segment that has very few options. What’s new is the combination of a soft-top roof with BMW’s 3.0-litre inline-six engine and all-wheel drive, rather than a smaller engine or coupe-only format. For Indian buyers, this matters because it offers a rare mix of performance and open-top driving in one package albeit at a price point influenced by full import duties.
Engine, Performance And Key Numbers
The BMW M440i Convertible uses a 3.0-litre, inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 374 hp of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent through an 8-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels via BMW’s
xDrive system.
Performance figures are in line with what you’d expect from this setup. The car can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds which places it firmly in the performance bracket despite being a convertible.
The fabric roof is electrically operated and can be opened or closed in about 18 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Compared to older hard-top systems, this setup reduces weight and improves boot usability when the roof is folded.
The car also gets adaptive suspension, M Sport brakes and a rear differential tuned for performance driving. These are necessary additions because convertibles typically need extra support to maintain handling balance.

Features, Design And What Buyers Should Know
Inside, the M440i Convertible comes with BMW’s curved display setup that integrates the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Wireless smartphone connectivity and a premium sound system are part of the package.
The cabin is configured as a four-seater but rear space is limited and better suited for short trips. Front seats include electric adjustment and memory along with neck warmers designed for open-roof driving in cooler weather.
On the outside, the car features BMW’s large kidney grille, LED lighting as well as M-specific styling elements. The soft-top design is central to its identity and directly affects practicality including reduced boot space when the roof is down.
This is not a volume-driven product. At Rs 1.09 crore (ex-showroom), the M440i Convertible targets buyers who prioritise driving experience over practicality. In a market dominated by SUVs and sedans, it stands out simply because there are very few alternatives offering this combination of performance and open-top capability.
