In an era where motorcycles are getting faster, more digital and increasingly aggressive in design, Ducati has taken a step back in time and turned nostalgia into something breathtakingly modern as the brand has revealed the Ducati Formula 73, which is a limited-edition motorcycle. And for Indian Ducati lovers, the big news is the bike is expected to arrive here in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The Formula 73 is a tribute to the Ducati 750 Super Sport Desmo from the early 1970s, which is a motorcycle that helped shape Ducati’s racing identity.
Why Does This Motorcycle Matters?
Behind Formula 73, you have to go back to 1972, when Ducati stunned the motorcycling world at the 200 Miglia di Imola race. Riders Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari took victory on the 750 Imola Desmo, which
is a machine that later inspired the 750 Super Sport road bike.
That motorcycle introduced the now-famous desmodromic valve system, which is a technology that still defines Ducati engines today. It was the moment Ducati stopped being just another European manufacturer and became a racing force. The Formula 73 carries that legacy forward.
Design
Unlike modern superbikes covered in sharp body panels, the Formula 73 follows a café racer layout, clean, slim and mechanical in appearance. Its highlights include silver and aqua green paint scheme, vertical gold stripe on the fuel tank (a direct nod to the original race bike), clip-on handlebars with bar-end mirrors, short front fairing, spoked wheels and billet aluminium components. Even the fuel cap has been specially developed with Termignoni, a name that Ducati fans instantly recognise.
Limited Edition
Only 873 units of the Formula 73 will be built worldwide. Each bike will carry an individual serial number, a certificate of authenticity and archival sketches and historical images in a collector’s box.

Modern Engineering
This bike’s power comes from an 803cc Desmodue engine producing 73 bhp and 65.2 Nm, paired with ride-by-wire throttle, Ducati Quick Shift, Traction control, cornering ABS and two riding modes.
The bike is built around Ducati’s signature steel trellis frame and rides on 17-inch wheels with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, ensuring that it performs like a contemporary machine.
What It Means For India
By the time the Formula 73 reaches India in late 2026, it will likely sit among the most exclusive Ducatis ever sold here. With such limited production, expect very few units to make it to our market.
