Japanese auto major Honda has announced an ambitious product expansion plan for the Indian market, confirming that it will launch ten new models by 2030, including seven SUVs. The move comes as part of
the company’s efforts to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-growing passenger vehicle segment and recover lost market share.
Honda Motor Co. Director, President, and Representative Toshihiro Mibe described India as one of the company’s top priority markets for future growth, alongside Japan and the United States. “India is going to be a priority market, and that’s the market where we want to spend more effort going forward,” Mibe said, adding that Honda has set up a dedicated project team to develop a comprehensive strategy tailored to Indian consumers.

Mibe also acknowledged the changing dynamics of the global automotive industry, including the rise of Chinese automakers, which have prompted Honda to refocus on key markets like India. The automaker plans to strengthen partnerships with Indian suppliers and OEMs to enhance localisation and cost efficiency, a strategy that has already proven successful in Honda’s two-wheeler operations.
Elaborating on the company’s roadmap, Honda Cars India President and CEO Takashi Nakajima said, “We are planning to launch ten more models in India till 2030. With SUVs becoming mainstream, seven out of the ten models would be catering to that segment.” The lineup will include models powered by internal combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric powertrains.
Among these will be Honda’s upcoming electric model, the Honda 0 Alpha, set for production in India in 2027. The EV will also be exported to Japan and other Asian markets. Additionally, Honda will expand its hybrid range beyond the City e:HEV, offering more fuel-efficient alternatives to meet growing demand for cleaner technologies.

The company now manufactures vehicles at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan, which has an annual capacity of 1.8 lakh units.
