If a premium MPV for your family has been on your priority list but low running costs are a must-have as well, then the Kia Carens could be a smart choice for you. Since the Kia Carens Clavis was launched
earlier in 2025, the brand has continued to sell the older Carens alongside the MPV's latest generation. The same standard Carens is now available in a CNG option as well and here are the details.

Kia is now offering the standard Carens MPV in a CNG option that is being offered at the dealer level. Since the arrival of the Clavis, the standard Carens has been available in a single, Premium (O), variant with the petrol engine and manual transmission option. This variant is being extended with the option of a CNG kit that will be fitted at the dealer level.
For those who opt in for the Kia Carens CNG, the MPV will be fitted with a government-approved Lovato CNG kit at an additional cost of Rs 77,900. The kit also gets a third-party 3-year or 1 lakh kilometre warranty for added peace of mind. The option can also be perceived as a bonus for fleet operators who opt for CNG vehicle options.
With the new addition, the standard Kia Carens is now available in three different engine options, including the 1.5-litre diesel, 1.5-litre NA petrol and the new 1.5-litre NA petrol + CNG. All options come with a 6-speed manual transmission and no automatic option is on offer. While the petrol only Carens produces 114 hp and 144 Nm of torque, the CNG equipped version could see slight drop in performance in its alternate fuel mode. Fuel efficiency increase for the Carens in CNG mode has not been announced yet.
The CNG option in the Kia Carens would also pit it directly against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG, which has been the most sought-after 7-seater CNG vehicle suitable for long-distance travel. If the Carens CNG will prove to be a threat to the Ertiga CNG's popularity, remains to be seen. In terms of pricing, while the standard Kia Carens Premium (O) Petrol is priced at Rs 10.99 lakh ex-showroom, the CNG version is priced at Rs 11.77 lakh ex-showroom at a markup of Rs 77,900.
