The 125cc bike segment in India is no longer just about basic commuting. Today, even entry-level bikes come with sporty looks and modern features. Two strong options leading this change are the Honda CB 125 Hornet and the Hero Xtreme 125R.
Price And Positioning
The Honda CB 125 Hornet starts at Rs 1,15,235 (ex-showroom), while the Hero Xtreme 125R is much more affordable at Rs 90,800. This price gap clearly shows their approach as Honda is going premium, while Hero is targeting budget-conscious buyers.
Engine And Performance
Both bikes come with similar engine sizes, around 124cc. The Hornet produces 11.14 PS and 11.2 Nm torque, while the Xtreme 125R delivers slightly more power at 11.55 PS but lower torque at 10.5 Nm.
On the road, the difference
is simple. The Honda feels smoother and more refined. It’s easy to ride in traffic and feels calm. The Hero feels a bit more energetic and responsive, especially when you accelerate.
Ride And Comfort
The Honda CB 125 Hornet stands out with its segment-first golden USD front forks and rear monoshock. This setup gives better stability and a slightly premium riding feel, especially on city roads.
The Hero Xtreme 125R uses conventional front forks but adds a SHOWA monoshock at the rear. It is tuned for comfort and handles rough roads well. It also has better ground clearance, which helps on bad roads and speed breakers.
Features and Technology
Honda offers a premium experience with a 4.2-inch TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity via RoadSync, navigation, music control, and a USB-C charging port. It also has an assist and slipper clutch, which makes gear shifts smoother.
Hero, however, pushes hard on technology. It offers ride-by-wire throttle, riding modes (Eco, Road, Power), and even cruise control in top variants. These features are usually seen in bigger bikes, making the Xtreme 125R very unique in this segment.

Safety And Braking
The Honda CB 125 Hornet comes with single-channel ABS as standard. The Hero Xtreme 125R goes a step ahead by offering dual-channel ABS in higher variants, which gives better braking safety. This is a big advantage for new riders.
Mileage And Practicality
Hero clearly wins here with a claimed mileage of around 66 kmpl, compared to Honda’s 48-60 kmpl. If fuel saving is your top priority, the Xtreme makes more sense.
Design And Road Presence
The Honda CB 125 Hornet looks sharp and aggressive, inspired by bigger Hornet bikes. It feels like a small big-bike. The Hero Xtreme 125R also looks sporty but slightly more practical and less aggressive. It still has a strong road presence, especially with its LED lighting.
If you want a premium feel, smooth engine, and better suspension, the Honda CB 125 Hornet is the right pick. However, if you want better mileage, more features for the price, and higher safety options, the Hero Xtreme 125R is the smarter buy.
