Nissan Tekton midsize SUV makes its global debut in India tomorrow. This unveil will mark the Japanese brand's return to the segment after discontinuing the Kicks in 2023. The Tekton will be the thirteenth model in India's midsize SUV segment and will share its platform and powertrains with the Renault Duster while wearing a completely different body. For buyers comparing options in this crowded space, the Tekton's Patrol-inspired design language is worth understanding before prices are announced tomorrow.
How Different Is Tekton From Renault Duster?
The Nissan Tekton is a badge-engineered Duster, so it shares the same CMF-B platform and engine options but the exterior and interior are deliberately designed to stand apart. Nissan has taken design inspiration from its larger Patrol SUV which
means boxy proportions, sharper lighting signatures as well as a more upright front face than the curvier Duster.
Teaser shots have shown distinct LED daytime running light patterns at both ends, a higher bonnet line and C-shaped taillamps. While some body panels like the doors may be shared, the front and rear fascias are unique to the Tekton.
Inside, the dashboard layout is expected to differ from the Duster's with unique colour, trim and texture combinations though the technology stack is likely to carry over largely unchanged from its Renault sibling.
Nissan Tekton: Expected Engines and Features
Two engine options are expected: a 100 hp, 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol paired with a 6-speed manual and a 163 hp, 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic.
Feature-wise, the top-spec variant is expected to carry comfort amenities and safety tech such as a panoramic sunroof, six airbags as standard, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electronic parking brake, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, a wireless phone charger, a 10.1-inch infotainment unit and TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system).
The Tekton is likely to land in a similar price range as Duster (Rs 10.49 lakh, starting ex-showroom). It will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Honda Elevate. Confirmed prices will only be known tomorrow, so anyone planning to book should wait for the full variant-price breakdown before deciding.
