Renault India’s first month of 2026 has turned into a loud, confident statement as the French car brand reported 3,715 units in wholesales in January 2026, which marks a 33.6 percent year-on-year growth
compared to 2,780 units in January last year.
Triber and Kiger
The surge in sales numbers is largely powered by Renault’s compact cars which are the Renault Triber and Renault Kiger. Together, these two saw a 45.3 percent rise in sales this January. These are cars designed with Indian needs at priority. The Triber is a smart seven-seater that can shrink and expand its seating accordingly which is ideal for families.
The Kiger, on the other hand, is a compact SUV that offers the tall stance and road presence buyers love, without stretching the budget. Renault’s affordable, practical cars are finding more takers in a market that is becoming extremely value conscious. But while the Triber and Kiger are doing the heavy lifting today, Renault’s real spotlight is aimed at what’s coming next.

All New Duster
Renault has officially unveiled the next-generation Renault Duster on January 26 and this is more than just a new model. For many Indian enthusiasts, the original Duster was the SUV that started the compact SUV craze over a decade ago. This new Duster is Renault’s first big step under its International Gameplan 2027 for India. Importantly, it has been developed with over 90 percent India-specific elements, which means the company has made it heavily for local roads, fuel conditions and buyer expectations. The design is now more modern and muscular, but the rugged, go-anywhere character remains intact.
Three engine options, including a hybrid
Renault is offering the new Duster with three distinct powertrains, which are-
- 1.0L turbo-petrol, producing 99 bhp and 160 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual.
- 1.3L turbo-petrol direct injection, producing 160 bhp and 280 Nm, with manual or dual-clutch automatic options.
- E-Tech 160 strong hybrid, which is a 1.8L petrol engine combined with two electric motors, producing 160 bhp.
Pre-bookings of the all-new Renault Duster have already begun through an R-Pass priced at Rs 21,000. Official prices will be announced in March 2026. Petrol versions will reach customers from April, while the hybrid is expected closer to Diwali.
Francisco Hidalgo, Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Renault India, summed up the mood by calling this “a new beginning” for the brand in India. Enquiries have sharply increased across dealerships since the Duster reveal, suggesting that buyers are once again paying attention to the Renault badge.
For a company that had gone relatively quiet in recent years, January 2026 signals towards a comeback story in motion. The Triber and Kiger are building the base and the Duster is preparing to headline the next chapter. If this momentum continues, Renault may not just be growing, but it may be rebuilding its place in the Indian car buyer’s shortlist.
