What is the story about?
Homegrown commercial vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors, on Tuesday, unveiled its next-generation portfolio of 17 trucks spanning 7 to 55 tonnes, marking one of its largest-ever product launches and setting new benchmarks in safety, profitability and sustainable mobility for the Indian trucking industry.
The launch includes the all-new Azura series for the intermediate and light commercial vehicle (ILMCV) segment, the country’s widest electric truck portfolio under Tata Trucks.ev, and significant upgrades to the existing Prima, Signa and Ultra platforms.
According to the company, all the new-generation trucks have been engineered to meet stringent European crash safety norms (ECE R29 03), a first for an Indian truck maker across its entire portfolio.
Girish Wagh, Managing Director and CEO, Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, said the Indian trucking industry is at an inflexion point, driven by infrastructure expansion, policy reforms and rising demand for safer and cleaner logistics solutions.
He added that the new portfolio reflects Tata Motors’ focus on safety, higher productivity, lower total cost of ownership and deeper localisation aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The newly introduced Azura range has been purpose-built for the ILMCV segment, combining higher performance, improved driver comfort and better uptime. Powered by a new 3.6-litre diesel engine, the Azura series will be offered in 7 to 19-tonne configurations, catering to applications ranging from e-commerce, FMCG and white goods distribution to construction materials, agriculture and regional logistics.
Tata Motors said it has upgraded its entire truck portfolio — including Azura, Signa, Prima and Ultra — to comply with ECE R29 03 global crash standards, covering frontal, rollover and side-impact protection. The trucks also feature up to 23 India-specific active safety technologies, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and collision mitigation systems, supported by real-time driver behaviour monitoring through its Fleet Edge connected vehicle platform.
To boost transporter profitability, Tata Motors has enhanced payload capacity by up to 1.8 tonnes across select models and introduced drivetrain upgrades, including a 6.7-litre Cummins diesel engine offering up to 7 per cent better fuel efficiency. The company has also rolled out Fleet Edge Priority, providing real-time vehicle health insights, predictive analytics and trip optimisation tools to improve fleet uptime and asset utilisation.
Accelerating its push into green logistics, Tata Motors unveiled Tata Trucks.ev, offering electric trucks across 7 to 55 tonnes, built on the new I-MOEV (Intelligent Modular Electric Vehicle) architecture. The range includes Ultra EV models in 7, 9 and 12 tonnes for urban and regional use, the Prima E.55S electric prime mover with 470 kW power and a 453 kWh battery, and the Prima E.28K electric tipper for mining and construction applications.
The company said the electric portfolio has been developed with deep localisation, indigenous EV components and intelligent battery management systems, supported by customised financing options and a growing nationwide charging ecosystem.
Customers will also benefit from Tata Motors’ Sampoorna Seva 2.0 service ecosystem, offering 24x7 assistance, assured parts availability, connected services, annual maintenance contracts, driver training and tailored financing solutions.
