Traditional Indian vegetarian sources like dals, chickpeas, kidney beans, paneer, curd, soy products, nuts, and seeds are excellent options. For non-vegetarians, eggs, fish, and lean meats provide high-quality protein. The most effective strategy involves consciously including a meaningful protein source in every meal—a bowl of dal with lunch, a serving of curd with dinner, or an egg at breakfast can collectively make a significant, positive difference over time.

Regular physical activity, particularly resistance exercises, plays a crucial role in preserving and building muscle mass, which directly enhances insulin sensitivity. Furthermore, managing stress is essential, as chronic stress can lead to metabolic disruptions that negatively impact glycemic control. Diabetes care should be viewed not as a series of isolated actions, but as a continuous process of informed daily choices. For too long, the narrative has been solely focused on combating sugar. While reducing excess carbohydrates remains important, it only represents half of the solution. The other half lies in restoring nutritional balance, and addressing the protein gap offers a straightforward, accessible, and potent strategy to stabilize blood sugar, safeguard muscle health, and mitigate long-term complications, making protein an integral part of the treatment itself.
