New Zealand will arrive in the mouthwatering contest after a comprehensive victory over South Africa in the semi-final, securing a nine-wicket victory thanks to Finn Allen’s unbeaten century off just 33 balls.

India, on the other hand, put 253 on the board against England in their semi-final but only came out with a seven-wicket victory at the Wankhede Stadium.

\n\n

Both sides have a history of facing one another in an ICC final and battling it out for silverware. Their meeting on Sunday will be the fourth time they will go head-to-head in a major final. Past records, however, are not looking good for India as they look to chase history by becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times and also retain the title in the shortest format of the game.

3. ICC KnockOut Trophy final, 2000 - (NZ won)

The first ICC final contested between India and New Zealand was 26 years when they faced one another in the final of the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy in Nairobi, Kenya on October 15. The Kiwis, captained by a young Stephen Fleming, went on to win the tournament and thus claiming their first ICC honour.

Chasing 265, New Zealand did so with two balls to spare thanks to Chris Cairns’ unbeaten 102 from 113 balls. The side was struggling a little at 132 for 5 when Craig McMillan was dismissed. Cairns, however, partnered brilliantly with Chris Harris to make sure that New Zealand came out on top.

For India, on the other hand, captain Sourav Ganguly scored 117 with Sachin Tendulkar also contributing with 69. In the bowling department, Venkatesh Prasad took three wickets.

2. ICC World Test Championship Final, 2021 - (NZ won)

Both sides had to wait for 21 years before they could face each other for a second time in a major ICC tournament’s final.

Played during the heights of the COVID-19 pandemic at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton, New Zealand came out on top to win the inaugural World Test Championship title at India’s expense. Chasing a mere 139 in the second innings, the Kiwis could get there with eight wickets in hand.

India had some hope of winning the game when New Zealand were 44 for 2. However, the experienced heads of skipper Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor took their side to clinch their second finals victory over India.

Kyle Jamieson, however, was awarded the Player of the Match after taking seven wickets in the game, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.

1. ICC Champions Trophy Final, 2025 (IND won)

India would get their revenge of the two previous finals defeats by beating New Zealand in the most recent ICC final. The Rohit Sharma-led side beat the Kiwis by four wickets to win their first Champions Trophy title since 2013.

Batting first, New Zealand posted a decent total of 251 on the board. India, however, would chase down the total with an over to spare thanks to Rohit’s 76 up the order and a well-controlled 48 from Shreyas Iyer.

In the end, KL Rahul’s 34 from 33 balls sealed the victory for the Men in Blue at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
