Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye has signed a two-year Vitality Blast contract, bringing experience and firepower to the Yorkshire bowling unit. He is

known for his lethal knuckleball, and has established himself as one of the world’s most damaging T20 bowlers, particularly at the death.

The right-arm pacer has taken 47 wickets in 32 T20Is and claimed 86 wickets across six previous Vitality Blast seasons. He currently ranks second on the all-time leading wicket-takers list in the Big Bash League (BBL).

“It’s a real privilege to be signing for Yorkshire. There is a proud tradition of Australian cricketers at Yorkshire and I’m excited to add to this and get amongst it with the guys. I know I can add some real depth of experience to the side. The Blast is a great tournament to be involved in, and I know how important it is to a side like Yorkshire to be in the mix to win it,” said Tye as quoted by Yorkshire.

Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket, stated that Tye will complement the young squad with his vast experience. He added that Tye’s inclusion is expected to improve the team’s record in the tournament. Hamilton also highlighted that Tye will play a key role in guiding and developing the squad, helping them progress even further.

We believe this blend will stand us in good stead for the Blast and help improve our record in a tournament which we know is important to our members and supporters. Tye made his professional debut at the age of 26 and went on to make his T20I debut for Australia three years later. He achieved three hat-tricks in 2017, against Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers in consecutive BBL seasons, and against Rising Pune Supergiants on his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut.
