“Want to go and win World Cup” Rohit Sharma talks about the 2027 World Cup

After losing the 2023 World Cup at home, Rohit Sharma eventually won the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy as a captain. However, he was removed as captain of the ODI in 2025, and Shubman Gill replaced him. In many interviews, Rohit clarified that the ODI World Cup trophy is the real World Cup for him, and he wants to win it for India. Currently, he is playing as a player in the ODI format and recently also won the Player of the Tournament in Australia.

Now, in an ICC event, once again Rohit made it clear to the fans that he wants to play and win the World Cup for India. He said, "I definitely want to go out there and win the World Cup for my country; that is something that I've always looked upon. I've grown up watching this 50-over World Cup. There was no T20 World Cup or IPL back then, and that was the pinnacle of cricket, which used to happen every four years. So, there was desperation; there was so much waiting for that one trophy. And yeah, I really want that trophy, so I'm going to try and do everything in my power and capacity to work hard and get it."

Rohit Sharma started his ODI career against Ireland in 2007. But his real career started when he started to open for India in 2012. In 282 ODI matches, Rohit has scored a total of 11,577 runs with an average of 48.84, including 33 hundreds and 61 half-centuries. Notably, he is the only player in the world who scored 3 double hundreds in this format and also owns the record for the highest individual score in ODIs with 264 against Sri Lanka.
