Englandlegend Joe Root has warned Australia ahead of the Ashes 2025-26, set to be played Down Under from November 21. Under Ben Stokes’ captaincy, England will aim to win the Ashes on Aussie soil after
14 years. Root will be key for England’s campaign as he has been in sensational form this year. In the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, he looked magnificent and shattered some majestic batting records. In the series against India, he surpassed Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting to become the second-leading run-getter in the format. The veteran will be expected to continue his form in the Ashes as well.
Recently, Joe Root spoke to Sky Sports and stressed on the fact that England have played quality cricket in recent times and they will also play aggressive cricket. "We're going out there with a different team, a different mentality, a different way of playing and have played some good cricket of late. Hopefully that stands us in good stead, and we can put across some really good performances and hopefully create some history," remarked Root.
The 34-year-old has never scored a Test century in Australia but he is not looking forward to his personal records as he wants his side to win the series Down Under. "This tour isn't about me making a hundred, it's about us winning an Ashes series," added Root.
Joe Root’s Test records in Australia
Joe Root’s Test batting numbers have been decent in Australia but he will be expected to notch up his maiden red-ball ton Down Under in the upcoming series. Appearing in 14 Tests in Australia, Root has amassed 892 runs with nine fifties in 27 innings. Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden is eagerly waiting for Root to hit his first hundred in Australia.
Speaking to the ‘All Over Bar The Cricket,’ YouTube channel, Hayden said that he will walk nude if Root doesn’t score a century in the upcoming Ashes installment. “I will walk nude around the MCG if he doesn’t make a hundred this summer,” said the ex-Aussie opener.
