right eye, as per the reports. The report, published in Dawn, highlighted a “deteriorating ocular condition” and stressed an “immediate independent examination” to prevent "serious risk" to Khan’s health. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has set up a medical board to examine the former cricketer-turned-politician’s health. According to a Dawn report, the Supreme Court (SC) has ordered that former Prime Minister Imran Khan be allowed to speak with his children. The court also directed that both the eye examination and the phone calls be completed before February 16 (Monday). The instructions were issued as a two-member bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, resumed hearings concerning Imran’s conditions at Adiala Jail. Imran had undergone a medical check up at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on the night of January 24, a development that reportedly came to the family’s attention only days later. Addressing the matter, CJP Afridi said, “The issue of Imran’s health is most important,” adding that “intervention was necessary.” He further emphasised, “We want to know the government’s stance on the matter of his (Imran’s) health.” Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan responded by affirming that it was the state’s duty to provide medical facilities, noting, “If the prisoner is not satisfied, then the state will take measures.” What Does the Medical Report Say? The medical findings state that as recently as October 2025, Imran Khan had normal 6/6 vision in both eyes. In the months that followed, he began experiencing continuous blurred and hazy vision and reportedly lodged multiple complaints with jail authorities. According to the report, Khan later suffered a sudden and total loss of vision in his right eye. An ophthalmologist at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital identified a blood clot as the cause of significant damage. Despite receiving treatment, including an injection, only '15% vision' is said to remain in the affected eye.

The document also highlights concerns about prison conditions, particularly regarding sanitation and ventilation. It notes that the toilet area has no ceiling. Regarding airflow, the report mentions that the cell contains two openings measuring approximately 2x2 feet, positioned on opposite sides near the ceiling. However, although the toilet is located inside the cell, there is no exhaust system installed.

On the issue of family interaction, the medical report states that the prisoner expressed further disappointment that members of his immediate family and blood relations, including his sisters, have not been permitted to meet him.

Since When Has Imran Khan Been in Jail?

Imran Khan has been held in Adiala Jail since August 2023 in connection with corruption charges, which he had described as a conspiracy by the present government and the army to sideline him and his party from power.

In December last year, amid speculation regarding his health, authorities allowed his sister Uzma Khan to meet him in prison. Following the visit, she stated that he was in good physical health but under "severe mental strain due to prolonged solitary confinement".

Series Of Events Of Imran Khan's Jail

On April 10, 2022, Imran Khan was removed from office after losing a no-confidence vote in Parliament. A few months later, on August 22, 2022, he was booked under anti-terrorism charges for allegedly inciting violence, although the case was subsequently dropped.

On October 21, 2022, the Election Commission disqualified him from holding public office for five years over allegations that he failed to fully declare his assets. Khan challenged the ruling in court. On May 9, 2023, Paramilitary Rangers arrested him at the Islamabad High Court in connection with the Toshakhana case, which involved allegations of illegal sale of state gifts. His arrest triggered widespread unrest across the country, including attacks on military and public properties. A day later, on May 10, 2023, the Supreme Court ordered his release, declaring the arrest unlawful as it took place inside court premises. By May 13, 2023, multiple cases had been registered against him nationwide over the May 9 violence. While he has been cleared in several of these cases, others remain ongoing.

On August 5, 2023, a court sentenced Khan to three years in prison in the Toshakhana case, following which he was arrested from his residence in Lahore. He called on his supporters to protest the decision. On January 30, 2024, the Islamabad High Court sentenced Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to 10 years in prison in the cipher case related to the alleged mishandling of state secrets; however, both were acquitted on June 3, 2024. The very next day, on January 31, 2024, Khan and his wife were handed 14-year sentences in another Toshakhana case, though they were later cleared due to lack of evidence.

On February 3, 2024, Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were sentenced to seven years in prison for allegedly violating Islamic marriage laws. Subsequently, on April 1, 2024, the Islamabad High Court suspended his three-year sentence in the Toshakhana case. Later, on July 13, 2024, the couple was acquitted in the unlawful marriage case.

Developments continued later that year. On November 20, 2024, the Islamabad High Court granted Khan bail in the Toshakhana-2 case. However, on the same day, the Lahore High Court rejected his pre-arrest bail applications in cases linked to the May 9, 2023 unrest. Shortly after, on November 24, 2024, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) launched nationwide marches toward Islamabad, demanding Khan’s release, freedom for detained party workers, and an investigation into the alleged rigging of the February 8 elections.

In November 2025, rumours about Khan’s death began circulating widely on social media. However, on November 26, 2025, the Adiala Jail administration dismissed the speculation, confirming that he had been shifted out of the facility and stating that his health was good. Officials described the death rumours as "baseless".
