8th Pay Commission Latest News: The Centre has shared an official update on the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha,

giving clarity to over 1 crore central government employees and pensioners waiting for salary and pension revisions. The 8th Pay Commission will decide changes in pay scales, allowances and pensions, directly impacting income and retirement benefits.

What is the status of the 8th Pay Commission?


Replying to an unstarred question raised by several Members of Parliament, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed the House about the progress made so far.

“The government has notified Resolution dated 03.11.2025 for the constitution of the Eighth Central Pay Commission (CPC) to make its recommendations on the various issues viz. pay, allowances, pension, etc. of central government employees within 18 months of its constitution,” he said.

This means the Commission has officially been formed and has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations.

What issues are under review?


MPs asked about:

  • Proposed changes in pay scales
  • Revision of allowances
  • Pension structure updates
  • Timeline for submission of the report
  • Government’s roadmap for implementation
  • The possible impact on the Union Budget

On the financial burden, Chaudhary said, “The fiscal impact of the 8th CPC will be known once the recommendations are made by the 8th CPC and are accepted by the government.”

This means the cost to the government will be calculated only after recommendations are submitted and approved.

Does Finance Act, 2025 change pension rules?


Responding to another question, Chaudhary clarified that the Finance Act, 2025 does not change existing pension rules.

He said the Central Pay Commissions are expert bodies that recommend different pay scales, allowances and pensions for different categories of employees.

He added that Part-IV of the Finance Act, 2025 has validated the existing Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules and principles governing pension payments from the Consolidated Fund of India and does not change current Civil or Defence pension rules.

Will retirees before December 31, 2026 get revised pension?


On whether pensioners retiring on or before December 31, 2026 will get benefits under the 8th CPC, Chaudhary said pension revisions are carried out strictly as per statutory rules and through general orders issued after the government accepts the Pay Commission’s recommendations.

The government has launched the official website of the 8th Pay Commission: https://8cpc.gov.in/

The Commission has invited suggestions and inputs from ministries, departments, central government employees and other stakeholders.

The last date to submit responses to the 8th Pay Commission questionnaire is March 16, 2026 (Monday).

Employees and pensioners who wish to share suggestions can do so before this deadline.
