BJP corporator Ritu Tawde has been elected as the Mayor of Mumbai. She becomes the second Mayor from the BJP and the first woman from the party to hold the post.
Ritu Tawde is known as a prominent face
in Mumbai’s civic politics. She first entered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as a corporator from Ward No. 127 in 2012.
She later won the election from Ward No. 121 in Ghatkopar in 2017.
In the civic elections held on January 15, Tawde secured a win from Ward No. 132. This further strengthened her position in the country’s richest civic body.
Apart from her work as a corporator, Tawde has also served as the Chairperson of the Education Committee of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
She is recognised for her administrative experience and strong grassroots connections, which made her a strong contender for the mayoral post.
