Man Loses Reserved Train Seat After Fellow Passenger Puts Feet On It: ‘Can’t Expect Civic Sense Here’

WHAT'S THE STORY?

When you book a train ticket, the idea is simple: get to your seat and travel comfortably. But for one man, things didn’t go as planned. Even though he had a confirmed reservation, he couldn’t sit in his

own seat because another passenger had rested his feet on it.

The user took to Reddit to share this frustrating experience. The post included a photo that showed a man sitting on one side while resting his feet on the user’s reserved window seat. Two other passengers in the frame were seen on their phones, who were sitting properly without causing any trouble. The caption read, “Someone bitcha** dude kept his feet on my window seat and I had to sit on someone else’s seat. What do I do?”

Reddit Users Weigh In

Since being shared online, the post gained significant attention with many Redditors sharing their advice and opinions on how the situation could be handled.

One user suggested, “Confront him and take your seat.”

Another added, “Stand up for yourself as simply as that. You paid for that seat, so claim it.”

“It’s India, not the USA, bro. Here we have to speak up, can’t expect civic sense here,” someone else remarked.

Meanwhile, some questioned the need for posting it online.

“So, you saw someone resting their feet on your seat and your first thought was let me make a Reddit post about this?” a person wrote, while an individual said, “You could ask him to remove his legs from your seat. Why is this even a post?!”

Other advice was more practical, with one commenter writing, “Ask him to remove his feet and sit there. No one denies it as far as I have travelled,” said one commenter.

“Politely ask them to remove the feet. It’s not that complicated. There’s zero reason for posting it online unless they don’t remove it upon asking,” read another comment.

A Redditor shared his blunt take on the situation, saying, “Instead of taking a photo, maybe you should have told him that to keep your legs away, and you could have explained it’s your seat, there is no need to make views out of it, of something so simple. Moreover, even after your imploration, if the guy was being persistent and obstinate and did not keep his feet away from your seat, then you should have endured it or reported it to the authority. They could have handled the situation.”

When A Meal Claims Your Reserved Seat

A similar situation was reported in July when a Reddit user shared his uncomfortable train journey to Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. During the trip, a group of middle-aged men occupied his reserved lower berth seat under the pretext of having lunch together. This left the passenger with no choice but to move. The post sparked discussion around travel etiquette and mutual respect among passengers.
