On the first ball he accounted for the dismissal of Salman Ali Agha, who was caught by Sanju Samson, and on the fourth and sixth deliveries, removed Shaheen Shah Afridi and Faheem Ashraf. Both Shaheen and Ashraf failed to open their accounts.

The four wickets in the final helped Kuldeep extend his tally of wickets to 17 in the Asia Cup 2025. The 17-wicket mark in the 2025 Asia Cup helped him equal former Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis’ record of taking the most wickets in one edition of the Asia Cup (ODIs and T20Is combined).

Mendis played five matches for the Mahela Jayawardene-led side in the 2008 Asia Cup and picked up 17 wickets.

Before equalling Mendis’ tally of 17 wickets in one edition of Asia Cup, Kuldeep broke Lasith Malinga’s record to become highest wicket-taker in Asia Cup history.

Malinga played 15 matches for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup and dismissed 33 batters, whereas Kuldeep has 36 wickets to his name in 18 matches.
