The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has formally raised concerns with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis following the recent firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s
residence in Mumbai.
IMPPA president Abhay Sinha addressed a letter to the Chief Minister, highlighting the growing sense of fear and unease within the film industry amid a spate of shooting-related incidents in the city.
‘Atmosphere Of Fear And Insecurity’: IMPPA’s Concerns
In his letter, Abhay Sinha underlined Rohit Shetty’s stature and contributions, both to Indian cinema and to social and national causes. He expressed concern that an incident of this nature at the filmmaker’s residence could have wider repercussions for the industry.
“Rohit Shetty has not only made immense contributions to Indian cinema but has also consistently stood by the nation whenever called upon, extending support to social causes and national initiatives in the larger interest of society,” Sinha wrote.
He added that the incident has understandably caused anxiety across the film fraternity and warned that repeated occurrences could foster an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among artists, producers, technicians and other industry professionals who contribute to the cultural and economic fabric of the state.
IMPPA Seeks Swift Investigation And Enhanced Security
Urging immediate intervention, Sinha requested a “swift, thorough and transparent investigation” into the firing incident. He also called for reinforced security measures to reassure Rohit Shetty and his family, as well as the wider entertainment community.
“We are confident that under your leadership, firm steps will be taken to uphold law and order and prevent any recurrence of such disturbing incidents,” the letter stated.
Police Probe Points To Fear Tactics
The firing incident occurred outside Rohit Shetty’s Juhu bungalow last Sunday. According to police officials investigating the case, intelligence inputs suggest that the primary intent behind the firing was to spread fear within the film industry.
A senior police officer revealed that several individuals have allegedly received threatening calls, but many are reluctant to come forward to lodge formal complaints or record statements. Investigators have noted that the lack of cooperation is making it difficult to initiate suo moto action in certain cases.
While warnings linked to the case have surfaced on social media, Rohit Shetty has denied receiving any direct threats. Multiple police teams have been dispatched across different parts of the country as the search for the shooters continues.
