When Mahesh Bhatt referred to his daughter Alia Bhatt as a 'Go-Getter' and described his son-in-law Ranbir Kapoor as 'Laid-Back'

Reflecting on one of Mahesh Bhatt’s most touching insights, the seasoned director once discussed the differing natures of his daughter Alia Bhatt and her

spouse Ranbir Kapoor. Renowned for his candidness, Bhatt openly considered how Alia forged her own identity in the film industry and how Ranbir perceives her remarkable ambition.

During a discussion on The Himanshu Mehta Show, the director of Saaransh (1984) confessed that Alia’s path took him by surprise. He reminisced about how she didn’t depend on familial ties but instead demonstrated her capabilities through unwavering resolve. “I didn’t introduce Alia Bhatt to the industry. Karan Johar did. I had no idea she possessed such a passion for acting within her. She auditioned on her own. I only learned afterward that they were impressed with her performance. I was taken aback because I hadn’t noticed any such qualities in her, even slightly. I’m truly pleased that she’s a self-made individual,” he expressed.
Bhatt also elaborated on how Ranbir Kapoor views Alia’s unyielding drive. Sharing his son-in-law’s perspective, he mentioned, “He (Ranbir) remarks, ‘Alia is made of different material.’ When I inquire, ‘What do you mean?,’ he responds, ‘Her desire to achieve more and more is incredibly impressive!’ While he is someone who is quite relaxed and content, preferring to do just enough, she is a go-getter.”

Ranbir and Alia’s romantic journey flourished after a short courtship, culminating in a private wedding in 2022 with close friends and family in attendance. Later that same year, the couple welcomed their daughter, Raha, in November.
The pair also appeared together in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022) and are set to collaborate again in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly anticipated Love And War (2026), alongside Vicky Kaushal.
