on Thursday. This young healthcare professional, a resident of Katwa in the Purba Bardhaman district, was one of two individuals in West Bengal to contract the deadly virus. While her colleague has since recovered and returned home, her own journey took a tragic final turn at a private hospital in Barasat. The news was confirmed by a state health department official, casting a shadow over the initial triumph of her recovery from the Nipah virus. Her death underscores the potentially devastating and lingering impact of such severe viral infections on the human body, even after the acute phase has passed.

Post-Nipah Complications Unfold

The nurse's health began to decline significantly following her initial illness in early January, shortly after returning home on December 31 for the New Year holidays. Initially admitted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, her condition necessitated a transfer to a private facility in Barasat for intensive care. Although she was taken off ventilator support by the end of January, she remained in a prolonged coma. This extended period of unconsciousness severely compromised her immunity, leaving her vulnerable. During her treatment, she developed a serious lung infection and also contracted a hospital-acquired infection, further complicating her already fragile state and marking a difficult chapter in her recovery process.

Sudden Deterioration and Demise

Despite showing signs of improvement and actively working towards regaining consciousness, including attempts to move her limbs and speak, her condition took a sudden and severe downturn. The state health department official reported that she was trying to communicate and regain motor functions before her health deteriorated rapidly. She passed away at approximately 4:20 PM on Thursday. Her death, attributed to cardiac arrest, occurred despite her having officially recovered from the Nipah virus. The official elaborated that she was suffering from multiple complications, a grim testament to the far-reaching consequences that can arise from such a formidable viral infection and the subsequent intensive medical interventions.
