Lowe's, in collaboration with The Lowe's Foundation and Hiring Our Heroes, has announced the launch of the Skilled Trades Academy. This initiative aims to provide no-cost job training and placement for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses. The program offers training in trades such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and HVAC, without using GI Bill benefits. The academy will be established in Jacksonville, North Carolina, in fall 2025, with the first cohort running from October 6 to November 14, 2025.

The Skilled Trades Academy addresses the growing shortage in skilled trades due to the retirement of aging workers, known as the 'Silver Tsunami.' By training military-connected individuals, the program helps fill critical gaps in the workforce, supporting economic stability and growth. What's Next?
The application deadline for the first cohort is September 12, 2025, with plans for two additional cohorts in 2026. The program is open to veterans and military spouses, requiring a high school diploma or equivalent, work experience, and transportation. As the academy progresses, it may expand to include more trades and locations, further addressing workforce shortages and supporting economic development.
