DARPA has awarded a multi-million dollar contract to Systems and Technology Research to advance its AI Fighter Jet Program. The $11.3 million contract is part of the Artificial Intelligence Reinforcements (AIR) program, which aims to develop AI-driven tactical autonomy for unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs). This phase of the program focuses on creating algorithmic approaches for real-time autonomous tactical execution in complex environments. The AIR program builds on DARPA's previous Air Combat Evolution initiative, which successfully allowed AI to control an F-16 in dogfights against human pilots.
