What's Happening?
Cambrian Works has selected Astroscale U.S. as its mission partner for a NASA study aimed at developing a concept to extend the mission life of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. The study will explore a commercial mission to raise the observatory's orbit, which has been affected by increased solar activity leading to accelerated orbital decay. The partnership will leverage Cambrian's electric Thin Attachment Pad technology and Astroscale's expertise in on-orbit servicing to provide a solution that is both technically credible and operationally executable. The Swift Observatory, launched in 2004, has been instrumental in detecting gamma-ray bursts and other astrophysical phenomena, and the study aims to prolong its contributions to NASA's astrophysics program.
